Rumors Suggest Canon May Launch EOS R7 Camera with Two RF Lenses

Admit it. Camera Rumors are worth following. With over the horizon specs and blue sky features, a juicy rumor sparks the imagination about what camera makers are working on.

The latest rumor coming out of Canon has to do with the next member of the mirrorless family, the Canon EOS R7. Not much is known about Canon’s next great mirrorless camera, but Canon Rumors has heard a few things which can give camera fans an idea of what could be.

Believed to be Canon’s first RF mount camera with an APS-C image sensor, the 36MP camera will be the first to incorporate the next-gen DIGIC X image processor, making the camera capable of shooting 4K/60p video, and powerful enough to do so in Canon Log 3. The camera will also have a slow-motion speed of 240 fps at 1080p and a still image burst mode of 20fps.

Even though the camera is more of a consumer-grade APS-C design, Canon is rumored to be incorporating a dual memory card slot design with one CFExpress and an SD Card Slot. It is also rumored the R7 is designed with ergonomics similar to those on the R5 or R6.

Furthermore, the scuttlebutt is that the R7 will be announced with a pair of new RF-S lenses, much like the Rebel’s EF-S lens that supports the 1.6x crop factor that comes with the APS-C sensor space.

There are no details as to what lenses will be released with the R7, but Canon Rumors speculates that there are two new lenses on the road map, including an RF 18-45mm f/4-5.6 IS STM, if that checks out, then a longer lens going out to perhaps 300mm.

Rumored Specifications:

  • 32mp APS-C BSI Image Sensor
  • 20fps
  • DIGIC X
  • 1x CFExpress & 1x SD Card Slots
  • 4K @ 60fps
  • 1080p @ 240 fps
  • C-Log 3
  • The latest hot shoe
  • A combination of ergonomics from the EOS R6 and EOS R5

Rumored pricing and availability:

There’s no word on rumored pricing, but the announcement is expected sometime in August 2022. Though not strictly an entry-level platform, the R7 sounds more like it’s the spiritual successor to the 7D, a nice middle-of-the-road design meant for the prosumer category.
