Atomos Introduces Camera to Cloud Modules for Frame.io Integration

Kicking off NAB 2022, ATOMOS announces a new partnership with Adobe’s Frame.io, which will bring their game-changing Camera to Cloud connectivity to Ninja V/V+ and Shogun external monitor recorders. Through the use of ATOMOS new Connect devices, select monitor- recorders will now be able to automatically upload footage to Frame.io’s cloud network in real-time, so that post-production can get started faster.

The devices promise to link any camera, be it cinema, mirrorless, or DSLR to the cloud and dramatically cut the time-ingesting footage. No swapping out media cards, no special deliveries, and no waiting for the footage to render and upload.

From Camera to Cloud

The ATOMOS Ninja V/V+ and Shogun connect modules can transmit footage encoded with just about any available professional formats, including in either Avid DNxHR/HD, Apple ProRes, and on the NINJA V+ and SHOGUN CONNECT, ProRes RAW.

Should bandwidth be an issue, then there’s also the choice of simultaneously recording high-quality and bandwidth-efficient “proxy” files in H.265 HEVC with timecode and matching file names to keep everything organized.

ATOMOS has also developed a progressive file transfer technology that will begin uploading the footage to the cloud, even as it is being recorded, giving editors and colorists the ability to begin cutting footage before the production has even wrapped for the day, much less all of the principal photography.

There are two different models … the ATOMOS Connect, and the Shogun Connect. The Atomos Connect pairs with Atomos Ninja V and V+ external monitor recorders and features a 12G SDI interface to connect professional digital cinema cameras. It uses ATOMOS AirGlu™ wireless timecode to synchronize and can connect through Wi-Fi 6, network Gigabit Ethernet, and Bluetooth LE.

When attached to the NINJA V or NINJA V+, the ATOMOS CONNECT has a slender profile that fits flush to the back of the 5-inch device, keeping the NINJA V/V+ as compact and lightweight as possible. ATOMOS CONNECT, will be available in June for purchase through ATOMOS resellers worldwide, MSRP $399 US/EURO.

Meanwhile, the 7” ATOMOS Shogun Connect is a bit larger to accommodate the Shogun recorder’s screen. With similar connectivity as the ATOMOS Connect, it features a loop through 12G SDI IN and OUT to support SDI RAW, ATOMOS SYNC timecode technology for camera synchronization, and multiple power options to accommodate studio or location shoots.

Connections are made with Wi-Fi 6, network Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth LE, and USB C. Onboard, there is also a host of comprehensive monitoring tools and recording options to support HDR monitoring and RAW recording. The enhanced 7-inch HDR screen is brighter (2000 nits) with a slimline bevel to widen its real estate.

The SHOGUN CONNECT features a comprehensive range of interfaces, iSHOGUN CONNECT, will be available mid-year for purchase through ATOMOS resellers worldwide, MSRP $1299 US/EURO.

The Frame.io camera to cloud service is available at no extra charge to all paying Frame.io and Adobe Creative Cloud Subscribers, with ATOMOS Services also being free for three months during the month of June.
