Last year, lens company Sirui launched into the Anamorphic cinema lens market with a 50mm T2.9 1.6x lens. Now, it has a big brother thanks to their new 75mm model. And it looks to be built like a tank.
While nearly identical in design and build to its 50mm doppelganger, the 75mm T2.9 1.6x will have a larger focal length and will be ideal for shooting portraits and close-ups of people’s faces. However, with a 2.6-foot minimum focus distance, shooters won’t be able to get too close.

The lens has a 2.4:1 aspect ratio, when shooting in 3:2, but can capture a wider 2.8 to 1 cinemascope aspect ratio when going with an image sensor that supports widescreen.
With a 1.6x de-squeeze capability, the Sirui 75mm expands from Sirui’s traditional 1.33x breadth, so it makes for a good mid-range lens between APS-C and a full-frame 2.0x anamorphic presentation.

Another advantage of the 75mm Sirui is that it is designed to work with mirrorless cameras like the Canon RG, Sony E, or Nikon Z mounts, opening up more cinematic options for hybrid content creation or smaller productions. \
The 75mm has the same standard focus and iris rings as the 50mm lens, laid out with easy-to-read red and white distance marks for both feet and millimeters.
Make no mistake though, this lens looks beefy and as such, Sirui has wisely included a 1/20 threaded mount on the body of the lens for support from a mono/tripod or other camera rig.
However, the design for the lens creates a pronounced pale green lens flare which many shooters may not be thrilled with.

Sirui has an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign going on and is offering the 75mm T2.9 1.6x Anamorphic prime at a super early bird price of $1199. Not a bad option for those looking to experiment with the widescreen format. Available in L-mount, e-Mount, and RF mount cameras. Sadly, no PL mount yet.
