Blackmagic Design continues to fine-tune DaVinci Resolve to expand support for more cameras and file formats, including support for Nikon Raw. With improved stability for 3D renders in Fusion, DaVinci also adds a preset for Sony’s IMF renders which should make Venice users really happy.
As part of their regular free upgrade, Blackmagic is making it easier for Nikon content creators to operate their workflows with Nikon Raw, even though Nikon has yet to release the codec for use out in the wild. The sign that Blackmagic is making this move, however, indicates that Nikon Raw’s release may be imminent.
Other features coming with version 17.4.6 include:
- Support for Nikon RAW video formats
- Support for Sony IMF render preset
- Support for CopySettings to work on Fusion modifiers
- Scripting API support to get node count and LUT by node index
- Improved stability with large 3D renders in Fusion on M1 Max
- Addressed clip gain changes being wrongly applied to selected tracks
- Addressed audio issues with proxies generated for non-48KHz clips
- Addressed a context menu issue for clips with cached audio effects
- Addressed a stability issue with some HDR controls in Apple silicon
- Addressed the issue with malformed fonts
- Addressed the issue of extruding 3D text from specific fonts
- Addressed SVG groups go offline if duplicate Fusion node names exist
- Addressed issues with IO encode plugins
- Addressed audio artifacts render Sony XAVC formats. Addressed sign-in issues for Vimeo
- General performance and stability improvements
Moreover, legacy Fairlight DR2 projects can now be imported into all Windows-based DaVinci workflows through the user of a special utility app. That can be downloaded here.
The DaVinci 17.4.6 update is available for free now through Blackmagic’s support page. However, while the free version does enable unlimited resolution options, Blackmagic limits the workflow to single GPU processing in Windows and 2 GPUs for macOS.
Additionally, output rendering can only be saved to 4K Ultra HD. Technical support for the free version of DaVinci Resolve 17 is also only available through the Blackmagic Design community forums.
Users who wish to push the limits with higher camera resolutions and heavier GPU workloads may want to upgrade to Blackmagic Studio. Available in Windows, macOS, and Linux Versions.
