Chinese lens maker Venus Optics has officially released its widest Super 35 cine lens yet – the Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35. The newcomer provides users with a super broad unique-to-your-eye perspective with T2.9 aperture which would be extremely beneficial for shooting under low light conditions while producing beautiful bokeh in the background.
Additionally, the lens delivers outstanding image quality with close to “Zero-Distortion” complemented by the newly devised optical structure which contains 16 elements in 10 groups, with two Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glasses and two aspherical glasses. This helps improve image sharpness and controls chromatic aberration at both in-focus and out-of-focus areas to the minimum.
The non-dome-shaped front element, on the other hand, allows attaching a 77mm screw-in filter directly. This makes filming easier for cinematographers as a heavy matte box is not required. The lens comes with a weather-sealed box for hassle-free transportation.
Despite being a cine lens, the unit is highly compact and lightweight. It’s 3.17” (80.7mm) long and weighs in at less than 1.4 lb (610g). It’s also available in Sony E, Canon RF, Nikon Z, and Fuji X mounts.
The Laowa 7.5mm T2.9 Zero-D S35 Cine is available for order retailing for $699. To learn more about the latest Venus Optics offering, head over to the company’s website here.
