Along with the release of the OM System OM-1 mirrorless camera, Atomos announced that the Ninja V and Ninja V+ will support recording of 12-bit ProRes RAW over HDMI. The option to harness ProRes RAW in an MFT camera makes the format more accessible and introduces new creative opportunities for a greater range of filmmakers.
To recall, The OM-1 is already capable of capturing DCI/UHD 4K up to 60 frames per second along with Full HD video at up to 240 frames per second. It’s worth mentioning that the OM-1 can shoot in H.265 at 4:2:0 10-bit and HLG internally. It also supports H.264 (8-bit), H.265 (10-bit), and multi-frame rate for recording video clips over 30 minutes in length.
Atomos and OM SYSTEM are fully committed to supporting the full capabilities of ProRes RAW. In practical terms, this means offering filmmakers the maximum degree of flexibility when it comes to working with the codec in post-production. Accordingly, ProRes RAW clips recorded from the OM-1 will support White Balance and ISO settings in Final Cut Pro.
Support for the OM-1 will be made available with an imminent firmware update from Atomos, which is currently scheduled for release in the first half of 2022.
