Coming from OM Digital Solutions, the just-announced OM-1 mirrorless camera sports a brand new 20-megapixel micro 4/3 backside-illuminated stacked sensor, 120 frames per second shooting, improved autofocus, a top-tier durable build, and powerful video capabilities.
The newcomer is capable of capturing DCI/UHD 4K video up to 60 frames per second and Full HD footage at up to 240 frames per second. It’s worth mentioning that the OM-1 can shoot in H.265 at 4:2:0 10-bit and HLG internally. It also supports H.264 (8-bit), H.265 (10-bit), and multi-frame rate for recording video clips over 30 minutes in length. Additionally, the camera supports RAW data output at up to 12-bit 4:4:4 to external devices or via the OM-Log profile or HLG.
Beyond that, the OM System OM-1 features a TruePic X processor which offers 3x-faster processing speeds along with a 120 fps sensor readout rate for faster, more responsive shooting. The processor also contributes to a wide ISO range and quick continuous shooting rates. The unit has a native sensitivity range from ISO 200-102400, expandable down to ISO 80.
The on-sensor phase-detection AF, on the other hand, uses a Cross Quad Pixel system that effectively splits each pixel into four sub-pixels for cross-sensor performance that is more adept at focusing in tricky lighting conditions. The focusing system has 1053 individual points, which fully cover the sensor and perform at up to 120 fps to suit virtually all recording methods.
Using AI, this focusing system can automatically detect a range of subject types, like cars, motorcycles, airplanes, helicopters, trains, birds, dogs, cats, and humans, as well as faces and eyes.
The electronic viewfinder of the OM-1 features a 5.76m-dot OLED panel, offering a bright and clean means for eye-level monitoring. The finder has a 0.83x-equivalent magnification, a 21mm eye point, and 120 fps refresh rate for realistic motion rendering. On the back of the camera, you’ll find a 3.0″ 1.62m-dot LCD touchscreen which has a vari-angle design with 270° of swivel to suit working from high, low, and front-facing angles.
Furthermore, the OM-1 sports in-body 5-axis image stabilization which compensates for up to 8 stops of camera shake, allowing for the use of significantly longer shutter speeds when shooting handheld. This advanced sensor-shift system compensates for 7 stops of camera shake with the body alone, and an additional stop is provided when select IS-enabled lenses are attached.
The lightweight, durable magnesium alloy body design of the camera is dust- and splash-resistant with an IP53 rating for ensured use in trying weather conditions. It has also been freezeproof-tested for reliable use in temperatures down to 14°F.
Other noteworthy features of the OM-1 include Dual UHS-II SD memory card slots, new BLX-1 battery, creative shooting modes, updated menu configuration for flawless navigation, separate AEL and AF-ON buttons for easier, more direct control over the different functions, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi (5 and 2.4GHz) support, and more.
