Japanese audio gear maker Zoom has just added another enticing offering to its lineup of handy video recorders.
The just-announced Zoom Q8n-4K not only can simultaneously record up to 4 audio tracks using two external XLR inputs (up to 24bit/96kHz) but it’s also capable of capturing 4K video along the way. The newcomer can also stream video, but then the resolution is limited to Full HD only.
The Q8n-4K sports a 1/2.3″ 16MP CMOS sensor which has a fixed f2.8 wide-angle 150° lens on the front. It can shoot 4K HDR video up to 30fps along with 1080p and 720p up to 60fps using MPEG-4 AVC/ H.264 codec. You can record up to 512GB using MicroSD cards.

The portable audio recorder also features a handy LCD monitor that flips 180° for selfie shooting. On top, the Zoom Q8n-4K supports a new v2.0 generation microphone capsule that can be used along with a plethora of other standard microphone capsules, including shotgun microphones, XY / AB microphones, and VR microphones.
There are also five built-in audio controls that enhance recording quality including Limiter, Compressor, Leveler, DeEsser, and NoiseGate.
The unit weighs in at 367g including a rechargeable lithium-ion battery which should give you around 1 hour and 20 minutes of operation time when shooting 4K video.

You can also use the Q8n as a web camera via a USB connection, but that way you’ll be limited to 1080p video and 48 kHz/16-bit audio.
Other noteworthy features of the Zoom Q8n-4K include a low-cut filter function, 5 types of scene settings (Auto / Indoor / Outdoor / Night / Concert Light) and 3 levels of brightness adjustment along with the ability to control the device remotely using the Q8n Control app with a separately sold Bluetooth adapter (BTA-1).
The new Zoom Q8n-4K is expected to hit the worldwide market in early January 2022. No word on pricing yet.
