Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 Announced

Blackmagic Design has introduced the latest addition to their professional broadcast camera lineup. The all-new Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 boasts a 6K digital film sensor that brings digital film quality to both traditional and online broadcasters. The advanced 6144 x 3456 digital film sensor provides exceptional low light performance with dual gain ISO of up to +36dB as well as 13 stops of dynamic range.

Blackmagic URSA Broadcast G2 also includes H.265 and Blackmagic RAW file formats, Blackmagic generation 5 color science, as well as a USB-C expansion port for external disk recording, and more. The lens mount of the URSA Broadcast G2 is compatible with 2/3″ B4 lenses, but it also includes an active EF mount adapter, allowing you to access a long line of professional cinema lenses, as well as having the ability to change out the lens for an optional PL or F mount.

With its 3 cameras in 1 design, the URSA Broadcast G2 can work as a 4K production camera, a 4K studio camera, or a 6K digital film camera. You can record to common SD cards, UHS-II cards, CFast 2.0 cards or external USB disks.

The G2 also features numerous broadcast and field production features such as built-in optical ND filters, focus servo support, fine iris control, a 4″ capacitive touchscreen LCD with live tally, PGM output, a small status display, a timecode generator, push-button controls, and assignable shortcut keys. Plus, the camera utilizes industry-standard 17- and 33-point 3D LUT files or you can work with the built-in LUTs such as Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec.2020, and more.

With a built-in LCD that folds out, you can both monitor and control the camera. While URSA Broadcast G2 features lots of physical buttons and knobs, using the LCD, you also get on-screen status and touchscreen controls. Additionally, the status display on the side shows record, locked, and reference timecodes, along with the current shooting frame rate, shutter angle, aperture, white balance, gain, and iris. The display also features a battery indicator, card recording status, and audio meters for monitoring levels.

The latest URSA Broadcast G2 also has a built-in time-of-day timecode generator, so you can sync all the cameras and then do multicamera editing later.

When it comes to audio, the G2 offers dual XLR audio inputs for line/mic audio with 48V phantom power, a 3.5mm analog headphone jack that is compatible with iPhone-style headsets for talkback, a reference input for sync/black burst/timecode, a 12-pin Hirose for broadcast lens controllers, and a 2.5mm LANC port for start/stop control.
