Meet the RED V-RAPTOR – 35.4MP Vista Vision Sensor, 8K Video Up to 120fps, DSMC3 Body, and More

We know that the DSMC3 lineup was coming, and now it’s official. The V-RAPTOR is the first RED camera that sports a DSMC3 body using RED PRO CFexpress cards instead of RED Mini Mags. The newcomer also boasts a 35.4MP CMOS Vista Vision sensor (40.96mm x 21.60mm) capable of shooting 8K RAW up to 120fps alongside 6K up to 198fps (in Super 35 mode), 4K up to 240fps, and 2K up to 480fps in 17:9 mode.

If that isn’t enough, the full-frame camera can achieve impressive 600fps when shooting in 2K using the 2.4:1 aspect ratio. The brand new model comes equipped with a native Canon RF mount with a locking ring and provides phase-detection autofocus.

According to RED, the V-RAPTOR has the highest recorded dynamic range and fastest sensor scan times ever on a RED camera. The unit offers 16-bit REDCODE RAW recording at a maximum data rate of 800 MB/s. It also utilizes the simplified REDCODE RAW compression ratios (HQ, MQ, LQ) first introduced with the RED Komodo.

Furthermore, the RED V-RAPTOR body is rugged, water, and dust-resistant and can be powered via the V-Mount battery on the back of the camera. On the right-hand side, you’ll find an integrated 2.4” LCD for camera control, unlike the RED Komodo which features one on top.

There’s plenty of I/O options on the RED V-RAPTOR as well. The unit features dual 4K 12G-SDI ports, a 5-pin XLR input, Wi-Fi connectivity, multi-purpose 9-pin EXT port along with a USB-C for wired control.

The body of the new model is built of aluminum and is slightly bigger than the RED Komodo measuring 6 x 4.25 inches while weighing in at 4.03 lb/1.82kg.
