Sony A7S III Gets the S-Cinetone Profile via Firmware Update

It seems that Sony has been crushing it lately with no intention of slowing down anytime soon. The company has just released a firmware update that adds the highly demanded S-Cinetone picture profile to the ubiquitous A7S III, thus closing the gap between this particular mirrorless camera model and the newly released FX3 cine camera even further.

First introduced with the Sony FX9, S-Cinetone produces images with a more cinematic look in tone and color along with a more pleasing rendering of skin tones emulating the color science of the Sony VENICE. The base curve of S-Cinetone is BT.709, but it adopts some essences of film-tone. It produces high contrast in the low luminance levels and low contrast tone in the highlights of the captured image.
