After being teased a few months ago, today at CES 2021 Sony have finally spilled the beans on their first consumer drone Airpeak. The company released a few promo videos where we can get a clear idea of what the quadcopter looks like as well as what it’s truly capable of in a real-world shooting scenario.
It’s also apparent that the Airpeak will be capable of carrying a Sony Alpha full-frame mirrorless camera on board and fly with it flawlessly at full speed. Additionally, the unit comes with a folding arm design where the two legs retract once the device is up in the air. It’s also powered by two batteries and has a rock-solid gimbal system.
Unfortunately, there’s still no word on Airpeak’s specifications, price, or release date. Nevertheless, it will be interesting to find out how this device will compete with DJI rivals which are dominating the consumer drone market for quite some time now.
Apparently, Airpeak is aimed at video professionals working with higher-end images which is already a bold move to take by a company that doesn’t have prior experience with such a product. It will be exciting to see what else this drone project has to offer.
Sony will continue to release project-related information down the line leading up to the launch of Airpeak while gaining feedback from professional drone users along the way. Of course, we’ll keep you updated once more details regarding Airpeak emerge.
