Atomos has led the ProRes RAW charge in 2020 releasing a barrage of ProRes RAW recording combinations together with partners like Sony, Panasonic, Nikon, Z-Cam, FujiFilm, and Sigma.
Over this time, ProRes RAW has been steadily gaining momentum with more than 20 camera models now available and an ever-increasing array of controls available in editing and grading. Other than that, ProRes RAW combines the visual and workflow benefits of RAW video with the incredible real-time performance of ProRes to give Atomos users even more flexibility in their workflows.
This format gives filmmakers enormous latitude when adjusting the look of their images and extending brightness and shadow detail, making it ideal for HDR workflows.
With recently added features and workflow enhancements in Premiere Pro, Atomos creators and editors can be more creative and flexible than ever with ProRes RAW content.
Getting started with ProRes RAW in Premiere Pro is as simple as shooting with a compatible camera, using the HDR tools on the Atomos Ninja V to expose correctly, record ProRes RAW to SSD and then dock and drop the footage straight onto the timeline in Premiere Pro.
The latest Premiere Pro 14.5 now provides import support for both AMD and Intel GPUs. Keep in mind, though, that for ProRes RAW playback, you’ll still need to download the latest ProRes RAW decoder that’s available on Apple’s website here.
Other improvements of Premiere Pro 14.5 include:
- Acceleration for 8-bit H.264 and 8-bit H.265 across all macOS and Windows configurations
- Faster audio pre-roll
- HDR workflows include support for Rec2100 PQ color working space in Premiere Pro and After Effects
- Color management for ARRI ProRes allows users to work with embedded LUTs, streamlining the workflow in Premiere Pro
- ProRes RAW to LOG color space conversion is now available in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Adobe Media Encoder
With ProRes RAW users have fine control over color decision making, exposure control, and all of this without asking camera operators to overhaul their current method of capture. To take advantage of the full ProRes RAW functionality in Premiere Pro CC, make sure that you have updated the software to the latest 14.5 version available today.
