Meet the Sony a7C – 24.2MP Full Frame Sensor, 4K30p Video, 5-Axis IBIS, and More

Sony has just announced its latest full-frame mirrorless camera called the Sony A7C. The unit comes with a compact size and lightweight design while weighing in at just 1.1 lb / 509 g (body with battery and memory included). With its 24.2MP sensor, it can shoot 4K up to 30fps along with Full HD up to 120fps with XAVC-S 4:2:0 8-bit codec in S-Log2, S-Log3, or HLG.

In addition, uncompressed HDMI output enables the use of an optional external recorder for clean 4K recording with 4:2:2 8-bit sampling. The brand new camera also features impressive ISO 50-204800 further expandable to ISO 50-204800, a capable AF, vari-angle LCD touchscreen, viewfinder, 5-axis IBIS, and more. Let’s take a closer look.

The full-frame sensor and BIONZ X image processor of the Sony A7C offer up to a 15 stop dynamic range.  The sensor also houses a Fast Hybrid AF system, which uses 693 phase-detection points and 425 contrast-detection areas for quick, intelligent, and precise autofocus performance with support for Real-time Eye AF and Tracking AF technologies.

Beyond that, A7C users can take advantage of the built-in 5-axis in-body image stabilization, which compensates for up to five stops of camera shake for sharper handheld shooting. Compared to other a7-series camera bodies, the a7C has a distinctly sleeker profile that mimics the styling of a rangefinder, with an offset viewfinder and a streamlined top plate.

The re-positioned electronic viewfinder is a 0.39″-type OLED with 2.36m-dot resolution and is complemented by a 3.0″ side-opening vari-angle touchscreen LCD. The large-capacity NP-FZ100 battery, on the other hand, offers approximately 740 shots per charge when working with the rear LCD or 680 shots per charge when working with the EVF.

Other noteworthy features of the A7C include a single SD memory card slot that supports UHS-II memory cards, A USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-C port, 3.5mm microphone and headphone jacks, built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.
