Sony A7S III Official Release Date is Set for July 28th

The long, long wait seems to be finally over! After all the rumors and speculations throughout the years, Sony has finally announced a launch event for the A7S III which will be taking place on July 28th.

The teaser on Sony Alpha Universe, the official home of Sony cameras, shows that the camera will indeed be called the Sony A7S III and will be revealed on July 28 at 10am EDT / 3pm BST (or midnight AEST on July 29).

Six years after the original Sony A7S arrived in 2014 and just a couple of weeks after Canon and Blackmagic Design came up with their latest offerings the EOS R5, R6, and the URSA Mini Pro 12K, Sony are about to spill the beans on arguably the most anticipated full-frame mirrorless camera of the last decade. And, what a decade this was, let alone 2020.

Despite the unprecedented times we are all forced to live in these days, technology continues to move forward by leaps and bounds even as we speak. According to the latest rumors, the all-new full-frame camera will sport an overhauled 12MP sensor with even faster readout speeds than its predecessor the A7S II that came out in 2015.

This resolution suggests that the camera probably won’t be able to shoot in 8K, but it will supposedly have modes like 4K/120p 10-bit 4:2:2 and Full HD at 240fps.

Sony A7S III Specs (Unconfirmed)

  • Brand new 12MP sensor with fast readout

Finally, the MSRP of the A7S III is expected to be around $2,999. We won’t know for sure before July 28th, though, so mark this date and stay tuned for more details as they emerge.
