Sigma Announces Three Canon EF-M Prime Lenses

Sigma has just announced the upcoming launch of 3 new lenses for the Canon EF-M mount digital mirrorless camera series with APS-C image sensors, scheduled for release October 18th. The three new Contemporary Line lenses are the Sigma 16mm f/1.4 DC DN, Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN, and the Sigma 56mm f/1.4 DC DN.

The new Canon EF-M mount models will feature a newly and exclusively developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed. In addition, these lenses will be compatible with Servo AF and lens aberration correction.

While retaining the compact, lightweight and outstanding image quality concepts of the Contemporary line, this new large-aperture lens series covering from wide to mid-tele angle provides the amount of bokeh and fast f/1.4 maximum aperture, great for low-light situations on Canon EF-M mount cameras such as the EOS M6 Mark II.

Sigma Contemporary Line Primes for Canon EF-M:

  • Compact Size with SIGMA’s Art line-like Image Quality

The compact lens construction was carefully designed based on the capabilities of the camera body function to correct peripheral light amount and distortion. And given the more compact foot-print of APS-C mirrorless cameras, in general, the lens sizes were designed accordingly. These new lenses are said to produce images rivalling those of the top-end Art series, which are some of the finest around.

  • Smooth AF ideal for video

The combination of optical design for video AF and use of the stepping motor enables smooth and quiet autofocus. Canon’s strength is in their autofocus, and these new Sigma lenses are fully compliant with the camera’s Face + Tracking AF function.

  • Support for in-camera aberration correction

The lenses will be fully compatible with in-camera aberration correction (on compatible cameras), which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations and distortion. By matching corrections to the optical characteristics of the lens, this function takes image quality to an even higher level.

  • Available Mount Conversion Service

Sigma is also offering a lens mount conversion service that converts the mount to Sony E mount or Micro Four Thirds. Your local Sigma authorised dealer should be able to hook you up with the particular details on the process.
