SmallHD 4K HDR “CINE” and “VISION” Series Field Monitors

SmallHD have been cranking out awesome new monitors left and right for the past 12 months adding some serious pro monitors like the SmallHD Cine 7 (now offering a free RED DSMC2 control kit for a limited time – read more about it here) as well as continued their collaboration with wireless experts Teradek to bring more wireless options to their versatile monitors.

Well, looks like the SmallHD team is not headed to Amsterdam for IBC 2019 empty handed – the North Carolina based company has just made a major announcement – new Cine and Vision Series 4K HDR Field Monitors in 13, 17, and 24-inch versions!

SmallHD say their Vision Series “represents the next evolution of on set display technology for HDR cinematography.” The SmallHD Vision Series feature 2000+ zone local dimming array, 114% DCI-P3 coverage, and 4x independent 12-G SDI inputs.

It was just a matter of time before we saw 4K HDR production monitors from SmallHD, the company has been making HDR production monitors for some time, and now they are going full-speed head with future-proofing any on-set viewing experience. While some may doubt the actual need for 4K monitoring solution in anything less than 40+ inches across, this is where all future high-end production monitors are going in my opinion. It’s an inevitable process, much like where we’re headed with 6K and 8K on the camera side.

Full HD and 2K monitors are fine pieces of kit and have been around for some time (and will continue to do so) but as with acquisition, the “4K-visation” of production monitors was more of a question of when, not if.

In either case, specific details about the two new line-ups of 4K HDR monitors from SmallHD is a bit scarce, but from what has been released it looks like both Cine and Vision lineups will have 3 monitor sizes each – 13-inch, 17-inch, and a 24-inch.
