LaCie has just announced three new rugged external SSDs specifically designed for content creators and seasoned professionals working on the go who are looking for a reliable and super-fast mobile storage solution that can handle even the toughest environment in the field without a hitch.
The Rugged SSD Pro sporting Thunderbolt 3, the Rugged SSD with USB 3.1 Type-C, and the Rugged BOSS SSD with built-in SD card slot come with a durable exterior and provide built-in drop, splash, and dust resistance while offering different interfaces, features, and transfer speeds.
LaCie Rugged SSD Pro
Equipped with a Seagate FireCude NVMe M.2 SSD, the LaCie Rugged SSD Pro is the fastest drive of the three boasting blazing-fast data transfer speeds of up to 2800 MB/s via Thunderbolt 3. To help guard the user data, the unit features a durable housing that protects against drops up to 9.8′ and up to two tons of crush resistance.
The drive is also IP67 rated, making it resistant to dust and moisture as it can be immersed in one meter of water for up to 30 minutes. The LaCie Rugged SSD Pro is already available to pre-order selling for $399.99 and $699.99 for the 1 TB and 2 TB versions respectively.
Additional protection is provided by a limited 5-year warranty with Rescue Data Recovery Services plan. Beyond that, a 1-month membership to Adobe’s Creative Cloud All Apps plan is also included with each LaCie Rugged SSD Pro.
LaCie Rugged SSD
Unlike the Pro sibling, the LaCie Rugged SSD comes equipped with USB 3.1 Type-C interface while offering speeds of up to 950 MB/s. This is more than enough to transfer 60GB of video in under a minute and edit multiple streams of uncompressed 4K video directly from the drive itself.
The unit is still IP67 rated, has a 3-meter drop tolerance, and crush resistance to handle being run over by a 2-ton car. The LaCie Rugged USB 3.1 Type-C External SSD is expected to hit the market at the end of the month with 500 GB, 1 TB, and 2 TB configurations starting at $179.99.
LaCie Rugged BOSS
Last but not least comes the LaCie Rugged BOSS SSD. This external drive sports a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C port alongside integrated SD card slot providing speeds up to 430 MB/s. It’s also battery-operated meaning that you can copy, review, and manage your footage from virtually anywhere, without the need for a laptop or desktop computer.
The built-in status screen on the top of the drive will show updates on transfer completion, capacity, and battery life. Content may also be reviewed, named, and deleted using the LaCie BOSS app for iOS and Android. Furthermore, you can use the unit as a mobile battery pack for other devices that can be charged on the fly. The LaCie Rugged BOSS External SSD will also be available at the end of September retailing for $449.99.
