RED RANGER Helium 8K and RANGER Gemini 5K Cameras Announced

Well, while we’re waiting to hear and see more about the new RED KOMODO 6K camera, all of a sudden things over at the RED camp got even more interesting earlier today as RED CEO Jarred Land just announced the RED RANGER Helium 8K and RANGER Gemini 5K cameras!

And those are RED RANGER cameras that are actually available for sale and not rental house-exclusives like the RED Ranger Monstro, which will remain a rental house only camera. At least for now.

Unlike the traditional way that one would build a RED camera (which you can still do) – brain, lens mount, expansion modules etc., the RED RANGER is actually a complete camera system that is now available with two new choices of sensors – the S35 Helium 8K and the S35 Gemini 5K.

The two new RANGER camera options can be purchased for $29,950 and $24,950 respectively.

No matter, which one you chose, your RED RANGER will feature the same compact, standardized camera body, that weight just about 7.5 pounds. This standardization will make life easier for lots of folks shooting multiple RED cameras frequently.

RED RANGER comes out of the box complete with a comprehensive I/O array to satisfy power-hungry studio configurations, and boasts a large fan for quiet, more efficient temperature management.

And while the new RANGER cameras may not be to every owner/ops liking and preference – for example there maybe some issues with some gimbal stabilizers due to the size of the RANGER cameras, but in any case, the RANGERs are usually used on larger productions or at least with gimbals capable of handling big camera loads with ALEXAs and such.
