The long-awaited 3D LUT for N-Log on the Nikon Z7 and Z6 cameras is finally available for download. This 3D LUT is compatible with the Rec. 709 color space and is available in several versions as a preset of RGB color values, used to transform the appearance of video footage in post-production color grading, and enables adjustment of brightness, saturation, and hue.
With this release, Nikon’s full-frame mirrorless systems become even more appealing video capturing devices, considering the fact that users can now easily apply different looks to their content while filming in N-Log. When you combine this with the ability to output high-quality 10-bit video signal over HDMI, you get a truly capable 4K camera that delivers outstanding image quality in a compact form factor.
Unfortunately, Nikon have opted for the paid upgrade when it comes to ProRes Raw recording capabilities using the Atomos Ninja V recorder on the Nikon Z6 and Z7 series cameras.
Scheduled for release later this year, this functionality will require an additional internal upgrade that will need to be performed at a local Nikon service center, which “will incur a service charge”. It is still unknown, though, how much this imminent upgrade will cost once it becomes available, nor we know whether there will be other Atomos recorders such as the Shogun Inferno that will also be compatible.
Meanwhile, the N-Log 3D LUT for the Nikon Z6 and Z7 cameras can be downloaded here and here respectively.
