Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve 15 Beta 3 is Now Available for Download

DaVinci Resolve just keeps getting better and better with every update, and the latest Beta 3 for DaVinci Resolve 15 is no different. Blurring the lines between NLE, pro grading suite and now VFX suite, Blackmagic Design just released to the public the Beta 3 version of its super popular pro editing/grading and now VFX software.

The latest Beta 3 update adds the ability to edit sub-clips directly from the timeline, import audio only AAF timelines, in addition to the ability to add new APIs for Python and LUA scripting.

DaVinci Resolve 15 Studio Beta 3 also adds support for DCP compliant composition naming as well as support for decoding DCP packages with stereoscopic 3D or 96kHz audio content. This update also improves the responsiveness of OpenFX and ResolveFX on-screen controls, and features dozens of general performance and stability improvements.

DaVinci Resolve 15 Beta 3 New Features/Improvements

  • Added support for:
    • editing sub-clip extents for clips from the Edit timeline
    • ability to modify Media In trims and media properties for additional clips dragged into the Fusion node graph
    • Colour Trace of Fusion compositions
    • importing audio-only AAF timelines
    • showing the names of synced audio files on the timeline
    • presets for some FairlightFX plugins
    • decoding and encoding GrassValley HQ and HQX codecs in the AVI format
    • option to retain sub-black and super-white data for renders
    • control DCTL execution based on DaVinci Resolve version
    • listing the entire gallery still path in the Still Properties window
    • ability to retain grain texture using the Dirt Size slider in ResolveFX Automatic Dirt Removal
    • DCP compliant composition naming
    • decoding DCP packages with stereoscopic 3D content
    • decoding DCP packages with 96KHz audio content
    • importing Final Cut Pro X XML version 1.8
    • Re-added support for easyDCP decode and encode on Mac
  • List of what’s been improved in Beta 3:
    • responsiveness for OpenFX and ResolveFX on-screen controls
    • support for scripting with new APIs and additional Lua and Python examples

    • performance when using optical flow
    • Sound Library search capabilities in the Edit and Fairlight pages
  • Addressed the following issues with/where:
    • Super Scale when video field processing was enabled
    • capturing interlaced content would incorrectly tag the footage as progressive
    • subtitles would get rendered into cached frames
    • subtitles would be affected by timeline grades
    • subtitle captions would sometime appear incorrectly aligned on the Edit timeline
    • generators could not be dragged onto the timeline viewer overlays to perform an edit operation
    • the resets in the Edit inspector would not work correctly for audio effects and plugins
    • Fusion titles could not be disabled from the Edit inspector
    • resetting a Text+ title would make it blank
    • changes to the mode of the smooth cut transition would not get saved
    • freeze frames would be shown as a single frame in the Fusion page
    • extending a Fusion clip’s duration on the Edit page would show blank frames on the Fusion page
    • previewing a MatteControl node would sometimes cause a crash
    • adding the Advanced Grid macro in the Fusion page would hang the application
    • the go to first and last frame actions would behave incorrectly on audio timelines
    • the Audio Mixer widths and options would not be saved
    • rendering audio tracks would ignore automation when automation was disabled in the Fairlight page
    • waveforms would not be refreshed correctly when resizing audio tracks in the Edit page
    • using ADR in a collaboration project would cause a crash
    • enabling Use MIDI Audio Console in Preferences would cause a crash on Windows
    • replacing the Media Pool clip would not refresh the waveforms correctly on the Fairlight page
    • bouncing a track to a new layer would place the bounced content at an offset
    • browsing to gallery timelines from some projects on a PostgreSQL database would cause a critical exception
    • the LUT browser would show an incorrect preview of the LUT applied in the thumbnail
    • camera RAW controls would not update correctly in a remote grading session
    • the power window would sometimes not line up with the grades after duplicating the timeline
    • stabilizing clip starting with a black frame would cause a crash
    • ResolveFX Automatic Dirt Removal would not work correctly on the first or last frame of the clip
    • Face Refinement on clips with non-square pixel aspect ratio
    • rendering certain clips with large timecode values to EXR would cause an error
    • encoding MXF OP1a clips using Media Management would result in a wrong file extension
    • decoding H.264 files from some cameras
    • Addressed a crash when running a script with a pop-up window open within Resolve
  • General performance and stability improvements

Pre-installation Notes

  • DaVinci Resolve 15.0 requires a database upgrade from previous versions
  • Support for decoding and encoding of easyDCP formats is not currently available
  • Collaboration is currently not supported when using Shared Nodes
