The Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro Art Lens to Ship End of May

Sigma have been killing it with their awesome Art series lenses, whose optics have migrated to their highly successful High-Speed Cine Primes and Zoom lenses. On the photo side of things, not that long ago Sigma announced a bunch of new lenses in their high-quality Art range, and most importantly the – 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO Art, the first prime macro lens to proudly carry the prestigious ART badge, and now Sigma are also announcing more details on the availability and pricing of said lens. The new Sigma 70mm f2.8 Macro Art will be available in Canon EF mount in the end of May for $569 USD through authorized US retailers such as B&H and Adorama, which I must say is a hell of a deal.

The Sigma 70mm Macro Art is also available in the Sigma SA mount as well as the popular Sony E-mount, however the availability of the latter has not yet been confirmed. The Sigma model is expected to ship in June.

With their new macro lens, Sigma have taken their popular Sigma 70mm F2.8 EX DG and enhanced its performance to meet the world-class standards of the prestigious Art line. As such, the brand new Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG Macro Art prioritizes optical performance that defines the Sigma Art line, delivering stunning resolution and incredible clarity, while at the same time offering extremely smooth autofocus performance for a weightier, high-performance lens.

To achieve optimal results at every shooting distance, the lens features an extending, floating, two-group focus mechanism, which minimizes aberration at all focal lengths. In addition, the lens’ optical elements design increases resolution at close shooting distances, allowing for a razor-sharp in-focus area contrasted with a bokeh area free of color streaking.
