Panasonic has just released the much anticipated Firmware update ver. 2.0 for the Panasonic AU-EVA1 for download to the masses. Expected at the end of March, Panasonic reps made an announcement over the weekend via their Twitter/FB social media channels that Panasonic engineers are working hard on testing the final version of the firmware and that they’d be releasing the firmware on April 2nd, as Japan HQ prefers they release the firmware on a week day so as to people have support in case they need it. Some sort of Panasonic policy, which I get totally.
You can see the details of the firmware update below, but in essence this is a pretty big deal for EVA1 as Firmware 2.0 unlocks the 4K and 5.7K raw potential of this camera, in addition to adding beefy ALL-I Intra 10bit codec support. Support for 4K Raw and 2K Raw is pretty much handles by Atomos and Convergent Design (mainly in their top end models – Shogun Inferno and Odyssey7Q+) however, both companies have been quiet as to support for the 5.7K Raw. At BVE I spoke to a couple of Atomos reps, who said they are working on it, but cannot say officially when and how.
Someone has to support it eventually, so I think it is just a matter of time before either Atomos or Convergent Design announce support for the full Raw output of the Panasonic EVA1.
