Sigma Unveil 9 Sony FE Art Lenses + New Panasonic Leica 50-200mm f2.8-4 Power O.I.S.

Well, if you are a full-frame Sony mirrorless shooter that is maybe currently shooting with an A7R II and/or eyeballing the new Sony a7 III, but have been salivating over those sweet Sigma Art primes and wished those would be available in your native Sony E mount? Well, Sigma have answered your prayers, as they just announced the the upcoming launch of their esteemed Art lenses in the native Sony E mount, that have been optimized for the latest crop of Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras.

Sigma go on to say that they “…will gradually introduce the lenses as members of the Art line, which offers photographers the highest level of optical performance.”

The Sigma Art line-up for E mount will include the Art line set of seven prime lenses covering from the ultra-wide 14mm f1.8 to the telephoto 135mm f1.8. Sigma also announced two new models that SIGMA will be exhibiting at CP+ 2018: the Sigma 70mm F2.8 DG MACRO Art and the Sigma 105mm F1.4 DG HSM Art, the launch date for which has not yet been finalized.

The new 70mm Macro and the 105mm lens will also be available in Canon EF, Nikon F, and Sigma SA mounts in addition to the already announced Sony E mount. Further, Sigma Optics plans to introduce additional Sony E-mount models in the Art line going forward.

While offering the same high-performance optical design as other lenses in the Art line (already available in Nikon and Canon EF mounts), the new Sony E-mount models will feature a newly developed control algorithm that optimizes the autofocus drive and maximizes the data transmission speed.

In addition, these lenses will be compatible with Sony’s Continuous AF (AF-C) and high-speed autofocus, which are not addressed by the Sigma MC-11 converter. Like the MC-11, the lenses will be compatible with in-camera image stabilization and in-camera lens aberration correction, which includes corrections for peripheral illumination, chromatic aberrations, and distortion.

While, the prices on the new Sigma lenses has not been officially announced, my guess is they won’t be too far off from their already existing Canon EF, Nikon and Sigma mount counterparts. As for the brand new 105mm f1.4 and the 70mm Macro, those prices are TBD as well.
