Voigtlander – one of the oldest and most prestigious names in the game, has released details for their new Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f1.4 lens for Sony E mount. Featuring the well known Voigtlander metal construction, the manual focus lens has a classic focal length, a very bright f1.4 aperture and covers full-frame sensors making it perfect for the new Sony A7R III or the Sony A7s II.
The legendary Austrian lens maker are complimenting their already burgeoning E mount lineup, which also includes the Voigtlander Nokton 40mm f1.2 Aspherical and the Voigtlander Macro APO-LANTHAR 65mm f/2.0. Voigtlander are of course well known for their Leica M lenses as well as some of the fastest and best build lenses for Micro Four Thirds – I own one of them – the Voigtlander Nokton 25mm f0.95, which I used with my Panasonic GH5.
Voigtlander 35mm f1.4 FE Highlights
- For Sony E-mount / Full-Frame
The lens has electronic contacts for EXIF support despite it being a manual focus lens. In addition, because it incorporates a distance encoder, it supports 5-axis camera shake correction on the camera body side. You can also enlarge the display by operating the focus ring.
- Symmetrical Lens Construction
Designed with the latest optical technology while adopting a traditional symmetrical lens configuration to obtain a unique and beautiful depiction. By adopting Ultra-High Refraction glass, Voigtlander were able to create a fast aperture, while at the same time keeping the form-factor compact.
- Optimized Optical Design
In addition to covering a full-size image circle, the optical design has been optimized for Sony E mount FF sensors, achieving stellar image quality, while preserving the character of the lens.
- Reliable Manual Focus
The metal helicoid unit has been processed and adjusted with high precision and the high-quality grease that produces moderate torque for a smooth operation and delicate focus adjustment, that is often difficult especially when shooting video as the focus rotation on stills lenses is quite short.
