Could this be the ultimate video editing laptop that aspiring content creators and seasoned video editors have been waiting for quite some time? Well, it certainly seems to be an enticing option, especially when looking at its specifications.
Even though the 15.6″ Zephyrus GX501VI Notebook from Asus has incredibly thin and lightweight form factor, the portable computer packs impressive hardware components on board among which the powerful Nvidia GTX 1080 GPU.
Nevertheless, it still has some quirks and shortcomings that you should keep in mind. Linus at Linus Tech Tips covers the strengths and weaknesses of the latest Asus Zephyrus laptop in the insightful video review below.
Specs-wise, the Asus Zephyrus GX501VI Notebook is powered by the latest generation 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7-7700HQ quad-core processor, 24GB of 2400 MHz DDR4 RAM and 512GB M.2 PCIe SSD. Even though it only measures 0.7 inches thin and weighs just 4.9 pounds, the Zephyrus still manages to fit in a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 graphics card with 8GB of GDDR5X VRAM for high-end performance.
Beyond that, the laptop sports a 15.6″ display that has a 1920 x 1080 resolution providing wide viewing angles and 100% sRGB gamut coverage. More notably, it features a 120Hz refresh rate and NVIDIA G-Sync technology to deliver a more fluid viewing experience thus significantly reducing ghosting, tearing, and stutter artifacts. The Asus Zephyrus laptop also sports a backlit RGB keyboard that lacks a palm rest, so keep in mind that it takes some time before you get used to it.
Regarding connectivity options, the top-spec notebook features four USB 3.0 Type-A ports, Thunderbolt via USB Type-C, one USB 3.1 Type-C interface as well as an HDMI port. In addition, the laptop offers an innovative Active Aerodynamic System (AAS) where a portion of the bottom opens up to increase the amount of space for air circulation once you lift the display.
This functionality perfectly complements the ultra-slim form factor of the computer as it significantly improves airflow and reduces temperatures while performing system-intensive tasks for extended periods of time. Other integrated features include 802.11ac dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.1, an HD webcam, and a mic/headphone jack.

Even though the Asus Zephyrus GX501VI is merely as thin as the latest MacBook Pro, its battery life is certainly not as impressive. The laptop can drain completely its fully-charged battery for less than two hours which is kind of disappointing considering it’s a 2017 laptop.
Yet, it has extremely thin and lightweight form factor that in combination with the horsepower under the hood makes it one of the most appealing options currently available on the market that could leverage even the most demanding creative workflow on the go.

Two hours of battery life just web browsing. Less than one hour if you push it with anything productive. Is this convenient as a mobile device? It also gets hot and noisy when pushed.
