About a year and a half ago some of you may recall, we posted about new, premium quality compact LED light from UK-based outfit Blind Spot Gear called the TILE Light. Their successful IndieGoGo campaign raised nearly £50K, and in the past year the team at Blind Spot Gear have been working hard on getting the Tile Light delivered to their backers and now that the first batch is ready to leave the warehouse, Blind Spot Gear are giving video professionals a chance to buy the Tile Light before it hits dealers’ shelves. For those of you unfamiliar with Blind Spot Gear, these guys are also the creators of the Scorpion Light (you can read more about it here), which is another awesome tiny, flexible and portable LED light that can be attached to pretty much any surface.
In a nutshell, the TILE Light is a daylight balanced pocket-sized premium LED light that can be used a camera top light, a fill, rim, or even a key light in a variety of shooting situations from interviews, to ENG work, documentaries, corporate work etc.
Made out of rugged aluminium, the Tile Light is also modular – it can be arranged in various arrays and used as a ring style light or space lights for studio or location work. The Tile Light also produces a very high quality of light (TLCI > 92) utilising a single surface emitting technology, which eliminates the multiple shadows effect commonly seen on older style LED units. The high quality of light that it emits ensures pleasing and accurate skin tones, which of course is quite important.
The Tile Light Tech Specifications
I quite like the fact that the Tile also features a remote dimmer, single surface emitting technology for smooth and pleasing output and the fact that it appears to be built like a tank. The light is also powered by standard Sony L Series (NP-F) batteries, which can be found anywhere, very often on the cheap (especially if they are third party made).
Blind Spot Gear are also working on a really nice soft box for the Tile light, which looks like attaches to the light with two straps. A soft box will help you get an even softer output that would be more pleasing for filming interviews on the go using the Tile Light.
Here is a list of what you get with the retail version of the Tile Light:
- Tile Light
- Protective pouch
- Remote Dimmer Unit
- Travel AC
- Battery adapter
- Battery(NP-F550)
- Battery charger
- Ball mount
- Hot shoe adapter
- CTO Gel
The TILE Light is priced at £495 (inc. VAT) and can be ordered directly through Blind Spot Gear’s IndieGoGo page here.
