NAB 2017: Seagate and DJI Announce the Fly Drive – a New Portable 2TB Storage Solution with Built-in MicroSD Slot

Seagate and DJI have joined forces to create a portable drive specifically tailored towards needs of aerial videographers who want to efficiently back up their aerial footage on location. The brand new Fly Drive offers large storage capacity of 2TB, integrated MicroSD card slot, quick transfer speeds, and durable build.

Just as a reference, with this kind of space, Fly Drive can store over 60 hours of 4K 30fps video footage which means you should do over 250 flights with the Mavic Pro to be able to fill up the entire available capacity. Plus, the drive sports an integrated protective bumper that provides shock resistance and some extra protection for your data.

Once you land your drone, you can quickly dump the captured footage using the built-in MicroSD card slot in conjunction with the USB-C cable that is safely tucked inside of the drive’s bumper. The Fly Drive’s USB 3.1 Type-C interface allows you to do quick file transfers with the latest generation Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 computers.

If that isn’t enough for you to take the leap, Seagate and DJI have included two months of complimentary access to Adobe Premiere Pro CC with every Fly Drive unit. Thanks to the integrated hub that’s UHS-II-rated, you’ll be more efficient in the field by being able to quickly drag and drop 4K files from your MicroSD card to Fly Drive or your computer.

The DJI-branded hard drive comes in sizes up to 2TB and packs a conventional HDD onboard. It’s a bit of a shame, though, that both allies haven’t considered the option to replace the HDD with more reliable and faster SSD but if you plan to use the drive predominantly for backing up your media, the transfer speeds it provides should be more than enough for the suggested task, especially for the price.

Ultimately, the Seagate DJI Fly Drive will be available this summer selling for $119.99. If you want to learn more about the product, visit Seagate’s website or stop by the Seagate booth SL4527 and DJI booth C2807 at NAB to check it out in person.
