SPUD is a Foldable, High-Resolution 24-inch Screen That Literally Fits in Your Backpack

Combining DLP projection technology, custom optics along with a dedicated foldable screen turns to be the successful formula for aspiring developers from Houston, TX who came up with the innovative concept of building a completely foldable consumer screen with high-resolution. SPUD collapses just like a ruggedized umbrella to the size and weight of a paperback book thus making it the ideal foldable display for all creative professionals and enthusiasts alike on the go. Once expanded, SPUD connects to your laptop or any other mobile device either through an HDMI cable or wireless adapter. The result is a complete, portable solution in a small package that you can take anywhere when traveling. When you add the pristine, high-resolution images projected onto the 24-inch foldable display, we clearly see why the ongoing Kickstarter campaign of the project has raised whopping $ 360,000 thus far.

Unlike conventional screens, SPUD uses a flexible polymer that is wrinkle resistant and it’s easy to clean. Further, the attached casing keeps the mini projector of  SPUD protected even under extreme conditions. You can set up the unit in less than ten seconds due to its patent-pending innovative design. The cover over the arms blocks out ambient light and helps to maximize brightness and contrast.

The optical design of  SPUD, on the other hand, enables projecting a high-quality image over a much shorter distance than a standard projector. The maximum resolution supported by the portable SPUD projecting device is 1280 x 720 which seems to be more than enough for most basic creative tasks and applications.

Powered by Texas DLP technology, the SPUD projector is simple and intuitive to use as it comes equipped with an HDMI port, USB interface, built-in speaker, and a brightness dial on top. Of course, don’t expect that SPUD would match the performance and color accuracy of your factory calibrated studio display, but it’s certainly a viable option when you need a bigger screen for your mobile dual-setup on location.

Currently, you can still back the project and claim your SPUD for a special Flash Sale Early Bird price of $384 or pledge $399 or more for some of the other available packages. It’s expected that first backers should be able to get their hands on SPUD in June 2017 at the earliest. For more information about the project, head on over directly to the SPUD’s Kickstarter page.
