After it was teased more than a year ago, the GoPro Karma drone has been finally unveiled to the world by GoPro Founder and CEO Nick Woodman himself just minutes ago. On the special launch event in Northern California, the brand new Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session cameras were also announced. Both cameras are completely overhauled and still capable of capturing 4K high-quality video up to 30fps, but unlike their predecessors, now boast hardware image stabilization and multilingual voice controls. The Hero 5 Black also features a 2-inch touchscreen display, GPS, advanced wind noise reduction, stereo microphones, and is now waterproof up to 33 feet without requiring a separate case. The Hero5 Black will hit the shelves for $399, while the Hero 5 Session will set you back $299.

The highly anticipated GoPro Karma drone, on the other hand, is a true game-changer on its own. It’s not only a compact and completely foldable, but it’s super easy to operate and it’s fully compatible with the latest GoPro Hero 5 Black and Hero 5 Session cameras as well as the previous GoPro 4 siblings.
The Karma controller provides a touchscreen display with two joysticks and a few buttons. There is also a cable cam mode available as an option. At the front of the drone users will find a 3-axis gimbal stabilizer that also can be removed from the unit for handheld use.
Furthermore, the Karma Grip can be attached to multiple GoPro mounting accessories which provide Karma users with even more options for capturing buttery smooth footage on the go, something that could be easily spotted from the promotional video of the GoPro genuine quadcopter below.
The GoPro Karma will go on sale on October 23rd with a retail price of $799. If you want the GoPro quadcopter equipped with a Hero 5 Session, the price goes up to $999, whereas the GoPro Karma and a GoPro Hero 5 Black will cost you $1,099. the picture quality doesn’t look dramatically better than DJI’s, but it’s nice to have the option to detach the camera for ground use
the handheld attachment is pure genius IMHO.
