Meet the Brand New DJI Osmo+ Boasting Optical Zoom, Improved Stabilization and Advanced Motion Timelapse Capabilities

The world’s leading drone and gimbal maker DJI just unveiled the latest addition to its Osmo handheld gimbal line-up – the Osmo+. The unit integrates the Zenmuse X3 camera (variation of the Zenmuse Z3 Zoom camera) offering a total of 7x zoom, with 3.5x optical and 2x digital lossless zoom (only available when shooting at 1080p), giving it a focal length ranging from 22mm to 77mm without sacrificing HD quality. The device is also capable of shooting 4K video at 30fps along with 1080p at 100fps with improved audio quality due to the included FlexiMic. Keep in mind, this new camera of the gimbal is similar but not identical to the recent Zenmuse Z3 launched earlier in July for the Inspire 1 drone system.

Furthermore, the Osmo+ builds on the advanced stabilization technology introduced with the Osmo to keep the camera flat no matter how you move it. Considering the ambiguous results the first generation Osmo gimbal provides in that regard, it will be interesting to see how much the new Osmo+ has advanced in those terms. DJI has also bumped up the battery capacity on the Osmo+ now providing a 1,225 mAh battery, unlike its predecessor the original Osmo that comes with a 980 mAh power unit.

Meanwhile, among new features users will find a dedicated Motion Timelapse mode with programmable camera movement along with the ability to shoot 12-megapixel stills in Adobe DNG RAW. DJI is offering an extended, one-year warranty as an option, that doubles the DJI warranty period to two years after the purchase of a brand new Osmo. It’s also worth noting, the Osmo+ is compatible with the DJI GO app and can be equipped with a tripod, bike mount and an extension rod as an option.

DJI Osmo+ Highlights:

  • Zenmuse X3 12.4-megapixel camera with 3.5x optical and 2x digital lossless zoom
  • 4K video at 30fps and 1080p/100fps with improved audio quality due to the included FlexiMic
