Nikon just unveiled their latest crown jewel – an optical wonder sporting the most advanced levels of craftsmanship – the new AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED lens is a bit of a “bokeh” monster and quite special at that too. According to Nikon their 105mm f1.4 is the fastest autofocus mid-range prime in the world with a pristine image quality to match that claim. Nikon also claim that the design of their new 105mm f1.4 “Bokeh” monster is based on the so-called “three-dimensional high fidelity”, meaning it is capable of more natural 3D reproduction of three-dimensional subjects on the two-dimensional fields that are photos, as well as large and beautiful bokeh characteristics, that provide smooth alteration of bokeh as the distance from the focus position increases. These characteristics enable rendering with a natural sense of depth in portraits and images of still objects.

This lens is definitely designed for those pixel-peepers who demands the creamiest of all bokehs thanks to the 9-blade electronically controlled aperture and 14 elements in 9 groups. The end product of course being images with edge-to-edge distortion-free sharpness and bragging rights. The 105mm f1.4 of course covers 35mm full-frame (or as Nikon calls it FX format) and it should be a stellar performer in 4K video as well when paired up with a Nikon D5 or D500.
