Cinemartin, the Spanish based gear and software makers behind the popular ProRes conversion plugins and more recently the NEXT 4K monitor/mobile PC, are setting their sights on supporting RED Digital Cinema cameras including the latest DSMC2 bodies – the Red Raven and Scarlet-W with their latest TEDORED – a beast of an external recorder/streaming device and monitor. We all know how expensive RED media and accessories can get, and the very high barrier to proprietary accessories is a major concern for low-budget filmmakers despite the recently introduced Raven and Scarlet-W at much more affordable prices. This is where the Cinemartin TEDORED comes in. It really is a mini PC with a high resolution 5.7-inch touchscreen and is capable of recording high-speed 120fps in 4K as well as 5K and 6K at 24p.
Cinemartin position the unit as a great tool for saving money on RED accessories as the TEODORED can stand in as a monitoring device as well as a recorder for the price of a RED 512GB mini-mag, which is 2450$. The TEODORED runs Windows 10, and also features the ability to record not only on the internal 512GB SSD drive, or on your RED mag, but also on external USB drives, which are much more affordable – for example the Samsung T3 ($170 for a 500GB version).
For some users the bast part about this new device would be its ability to record the RAW RED r3d files directly to single SDXC (UHS-I) cards, such as the Sandisk Extreme Pro 95MB/s, which at $34.95 a pop for a 64GB card are the most affordable media from the aforementioned.

At the heart of the device lays a custom Intel Core i5 Skylake with 24GB of RAM (there is also a version with 8GB of RAM), and it being a mini computer really, you can directly edit footage on it – just pop in a mouse and some sort of wireless or USB keyboard an you’re all set.
Max frame rates are 4K/120p at 12:1, and 4K/60p at 6:1, 4K/50p at 5:1, and 5K/6K at 5:1. The TEODORED features a 1GB/s Ethernet port and bluetooth for streaming and is also compatible with DSCM 1 cameras like the RED Dragon and Scarlet Dragon.
Power is via Canon BP/ or Sony NP-F batteries (there’s an adaptor sold separately), by using any 12V – 19V power source (like external batteries module, DTAP adaptors, etc..), DC or directly by the RED cameras bodies, using a LEMO cable adaptor. The TEODORED’s power consumption is rated to roughly about 19W.
Estimated availability at the moment is October/November 2016. As stated previously, Cinemartin are planning on launching 2 models :
