NAB 2016: Zacuto Announce Gratical Eye Micro-OLED EVF

The NAB 2016 exhibition hasn’t open its doors yet, but the new product announcements have already started to come in this week as we get closer to the start of the show next Monday. Today, Zacuto announce the newest addition to their Gratical EVF line-up – the Gratical Eye Micro-OLED SDI EVF. The new EVF is the tiniest of the bunch, but don’t let size fool you – it’s packed with pro features and features the same world-class build quality you’d expect from a Zacuto EVF. The new Zacuto Gratical Eye is targeted at filmmakers working with professional SDI cameras and external power systems.

The Gratical Eye forgoes an internal battery in favour of a more professional 2-pin Lemo connection and can draw power from any V-mount or Gold mount battery or any pro camera with the appropriate output and cable combo. No other SDI electronic viewfinder on the market is as portable and powerful as the Gratical Eye.

Zacuto Gratical Eye Micro OLED EVF side

The Zacuto Gratical Eye ticks all the boxes of what a high quality, professional viewfinder should be. It takes industry standard SDI-IN and is powered by a 2-pin Lemo which can be found in any 1st AC’s tool bag. The compact size of the Eye makes it compatible with even the smallest and most agile setups.” – Phil Arntz, Filmmaker

The Gratical Eye is just 14 ounces but still has the same bright, brilliant 5.4 million pixel micro-OLED screen, high quality precision optics, and powerful FPGA dual core processor as Zacuto’s two other Gratical EVF models – the top of the line Gratical HD and the customizable Gratical X.

The new Zacuto Gratical Eye also features Zacuto’s patented, essential anti-fog coated lens (Never fogs, in humidity or freezing temperatures!) and their full range of software features including scopes, LUTs, two forms of peaking, and so much more.

Here’s a comparison between the models that will help you visualise the Zacuto Gratical line-up as it stands today:

The Gratical Eye eliminates the Canon LP-E6 battery found on other EVFs and replaces it with the widely used 2 pin Lemo connector. Zacuto has created a custom power video cable combining a BNC with a 2 pin Lemo to D-tap. HDMI customers can easily use the Eye with an HDMI converter; Atomos makes a nice HDMI to SDI converter for about $195.

Just like the lack of on-board the battery, which is a unique feature to the Eye – the Gratical Eye has two other unique features – an external tally light and a proximity screen saver to conserve power.

The Gratical Eye is priced at $1,950 US and is scheduled to ship April 25th and is available for sale directly from Zacuto or authorised dealers such as B&H and Adorama.
