Atoch C2S – An Affordable CFast to SSD Solution for Blackmagic URSA and URSA Mini 4.6K

Now that Blackmagic Design have announced they are shipping the URSA Mini 4.6K camera to the world less than a month away from NAB, there are a lot of eager filmmakers who are itching to get into the world of affordable Cinema quality 4K+ Raw. Sure, Blackmagic Design makes some really affordable cameras, production and post-production peripherals and accessories, but when it comes to media especially on the URSA cameras, what some may call the new “4K media standard” for digital cinema cameras – CFast 2.0 is usually frowned upon by budget oriented shooters. Yes, compared to SSDs and SDXC cards, CFast cards are not cheap, and even though they have come down in price over the last year, they are still out of reach for some shooters. But there is some good news here.

You may recall, last year we covered a cool SSD-based solution called C-Box that got around the expensive CFast 2.0 cards used in the URSA and URSA Mini cameras. And nearly a year after successfully raising close to $17K on Kickstarter, the affordable recording solution has evolved into Atoch C2S – an SSD based digital bulk loader.

URSA Mini Atoch C2S SSD Cfast

The Atoch C2S allows users to record directly to reliable, affordable, blazing fast SSDs on the Blackmagic URSA or URSA Mini cameras for about 1/4th the cost of owning the same size CFast 2.0 cards.

Atoch C2S Features

  • Powers directly from D-Tap port on your battery or plate
  • Supports SanDisk Extreme Pro and Samsung 850 Pro SSDs up to 2TB
  • Fully controllable through your URSA or URSA Mini’s Interface
  • Doesn’t heavily interfere with the ergonomics of your camera!

Unlike the old iteration that was the C-Box, the new verison Atoch C2S now supports 2 x SanDisk Extreme Pro SSDs as well as Samsung 850 Pro SSDs, and up to 2TB per bay! In addition, the Atoch C2S can be powered via a standard 12V input.

At the 2TB level, that’s like placing 16 x 256GB CFast cards into the camera at the same time hence the moniker – “Digital Bulk Loader.”

What’s included in the box:

– ATOCH C2S: The Booklet
– Dual Bay ATOCH C2S
– D-Tap to DC Power Cable
– Two SSD Spacers

The Atoch C2S can also handle 150% of the maximum data rate that the URSA Mini 4.6K is designed to put out, which would be 90fps in uncompressed Raw in dual card mode – as evidenced by the test below:

Creator Clifton Stommel got in touch with us and let us know they will be demoing the Atoch C2S at NAB in Vegas, and that there will even be a unit at the Blackmagic Design stand so do stop by and check this unit out if you are attending NAB this year.

The Atoch C2S is currently available to order direct here for $600.
