It’s a good day not just for firmware updates today, but also for good news from the Blackmagic Design team. The company released Camera Update 2.6 earlier today, and even though it is not a big update, it does add support for the URSA viewfinder to all Blackmagic URSA cameras. The URSA viewfinder was one of the many new products announced by the Australian budget gear maker at NAB 2015 (one of a whopping 38 new products to be more specific) packing a 1920 x 1080p OLED display with glass optics, three customisable buttons as well as a wealth of image control features such as 1:1 pixel zoom, zebras, peaking and more.
Once again, we may have been a bit spoiled in the past with a litany of jam-packed firmware updates by BMD, but this update is rather straightforward and I think quite significant as it signals the imminent shipping of not just the URSA Viewfinder itself but hopefully the new URSA Mini cameras, including the much desired URSA Mini 4.6K, sporting their brand new 15 stop dynamic range sensor, in Canon EF and PL mount versions.
As mentioned earlier, Blackmagic Design confirmed the URSA Viewfinder is shipping on their Twitter account. See tweet below.
