While we’re awaiting the next round of firmware updates for the Shogun from the good people at Atomos, a lot of folks have been looking for ways to kit out their Sony A7s and Shogun combos. Shape have a really interesting protective cage for the Shogun, and so do more budget oriented PV Gear with their Kaval cage for the Atomos 4K recorder. The Shogun is a fantastic monitor and 4K recorder, but it many do feel it needs extra protection for work in the field. Popular budget gear makers Varavon, recently teased a few new products they are getting ready to release – a couple of cages, one for the Shogun and one for the Sony A7s. At NAB 2015, Varavon had a Shogun cage on display, and given their recent Facebook update, the cage is getting close to production.
The Shogun cage above sports various mounting points for accessories such as magic arms, wireless receivers, small LED lights, or just about anything you want mounted. The nice thing about having mounting points on top and the side is that this can facilitate various mounting positions for the Shogun, which at 7 inches can take some real estate on a rig.
Here are more photos of the Shogun cage and Sony A7s cage the’re working on.
Similar to their BMPCC cage, the Varavon A7s cage features protection for the delicate Micro HDMI cable connection, and looks to be machined from a single block of aluminium, which ensures higher quality and durability.
Pricing and availability has not yet been announced but taking into consideration their pricing on the rest of their kit, I am sure it will be affordable. To keep up to date with Varavon be sure to follow them on Twitter and Facebook or visit their website here.
