Some time ago we covered a topic whether DaVinci Resolve 11 at the time was good enough for editing a project from start to delivery. Well, almost a year later that question has become rhetoric already. Among the 38 new released from Blackmagic Design at this year’s NAB convention in Vegas, was the new version of DaVinci Resolve 12 which proves this statement clearly as the software now provides full non-linear editing functionality, plus the well-known colour correcting features along with a powerful new keyer and multi-cam editing that take the software to a whole new level.
Furthermore, DaVinci Resolve 12 comes with a new, scalable interface with a lighter overall colour scheme and new fonts that make it easier to work for long sessions. The brand new top-down navigation speeds up layout selections and also gives users more flexibility to customize their workspace.
On the audio side, the platform includes an entirely new, high-performance audio engine that offers higher sampling rates and greatly improved real-time audio playback performance, including reverse playback and tape style slow motion scrubbing during dynamic JKL trimming. The support of both VST and AU audio plug-ins is another great add-on to the overall editing functionality of the software.
The core grading and color correction tools have also been improved significantly along with a better NLE integration, enhanced media management, an incredibly accurate 3D perspective tracker, and a new 3D keyer with improved matte finesse options. These are only a small fraction of the over 80 new features for professional editing and color grading that are available with the latest version of the popular grading and soon to be NLE software.
