Shooting in 4K nowadays is great, but having the ability to see your 4K footage on a native 4K monitor is something else completely. Just as 4K as acquisition resolution became available in more affordable cameras such as the Panasonic GH4, LX100 and the Sony A7s, in the last year we’ve seen a significant price drop in the prices of 4K monitors.
We’ve covered more affordable 4K monitors before, such as the 28 inch Asus PB287Q, and the recently announced 5K iMac from Apple (albeit at $2,500), which packs a powerful computer inside a stunning low-profile 27 inch display, and now LG are joining the 4K monitor party.
LG Electronics recently unveiled their new 4K monitor – the LG 31MU97 to the masses. The cutting-edge LG 31MU97 is targeting professional photographers and videographers alike, with a Digital Cinema (DCI) compliant 4K resolution at 4096 x 2160 pixels packed in a 17:9 aspect ratio 31” LED ISP display for increased sharpness detail and vibrant life-like colour rendition.
The new LG 4K monitor boast an impressive 10-bit colour support, for high colour accuracy capable of displaying over 99.5% of the Adobe RGB colour spectrum. The LG 31MU97 also features a Dual Colour Space mode allowing the monitor to display two different colour modes at once allowing users to compare how their images or videos would look in two different colour spaces simultaneously.
Editing in native 4K resolution is a massive plus that would see filmmakers benefit significant from the 4K resolution in addition to editing footage delivered for cinema exhibition with life-like accuracy by covering 97 percent of DCI-P3 color space. PC and Mac compatibility is ensured via DisplayPort/Mini DisplayPort support. The I/O is also amply complimented by 4 x USB 3.0, 2 x HDMI ports, and a headphone output.
