Shape I SEE I – Motorized 2-Axis Gimbal Stabilizer for GoPro’s, iPhones & Other Smartphones

Fancy motorized gimbals are almost everywhere now. There are many types of motorized brushless stabilizers that cover the whole gamut of devices from the biggest professional cameras on the market to the smallest ones available. Recently we covered some of the modern solutions considering the latter such as the 3-Axis GoPro Hand Stabilizer and the 3-Axis Smartphone Stabilizer produced by DSLR Pros and the Ikan X3.

The Canadian-based manufacturer Shape is another company that designs specialized camera complementary equipment, and handheld motorized gimbal stabilizers for different cameras as well. I SEE I is their motorized gimbal designed especially for GoPro cameras and smartphones. It is a 2-axis motorized weather-proofed gimbal that provides extra stability and support for your GoPro camera or smartphone.

The I SEE I gimbal can be easily powered by two LP-E6 batteries which will give you roughly 3 hours of optimal operation. It is also nice that you can manually control the camera movement with a dedicated joystick placed on the rear side of the handle.

Using the I SEE I gimbal, one should take into consideration that due to the 2-axis stabilization the camera movement is limited in a way. You can only tilt the camera up and down to 45 degrees only and on the row axis, your movement is limited to roughly 350 degrees always going the opposite way of the motor, thus avoiding potential damages of the system.

A nice feature is that you can change the angle of the handle with the dedicated joint button which gives you some additional freedom that partly compensates the limited camera movement on the two axes. Further, there are some dedicated threaded holes on the two sides and on the bottom of the handle of I SEE I  that will allow you to attach different accessories to the gimbal.

Here are some of the features of the Shape I SEE I 2-axis gimbal:

  • 2-axis motion cancelation, enhance steadiness during shooting
  • Two axis gimbal, tilt up and tilt down button.
  • The Gimbal I SEE I  is controlled with a Shape’s worldly know patented push button
  • Preset calibration included no need to recalibrate or download calibration software.
  • Works with a standard battery – Canon LP E6
  • the I SEE I will work with GoPro cameras (1,2,3,4) and Smartphones only.

At a retail price of  699 CAD / $615 / £525 the I SEE I gimbal ships in a nice carrying case where you can also put some additional accessories. You can order the I SEE I from B&H Online Store or by contacting your local authorized Shape reseller.

It’s great that as filmmakers now we have the freedom and flexibility to be more creative and produce more steady, high-production value videos in a matter of seconds only with our smartphone and a dedicated handheld gimbal, moving rapidly and flawlessly from shot to shot.

Certainly, those gimbals are not perfect (or cheap) and have their limitations, however, they give us another valuable option to explore more camera movements and challenge our skills in a way that simply wasn’t possible before.
