Blackmagic Design just released Camera Utility 1.9.3 – another part of their massive firmware update rollout, which stared with Camera Utility 1.8 back in June.
Then a few weeks later in July with the next Camera Utility 1.8.2 update they added the much needed 422/LT/Proxy ProRes flavours to the 4K BMPC, the original 2.5K BMCC, and the Pocket Cinema Camera.
Towards the end of July, Blackmagic Design released Camera Utility 1.9, which added a Histogram, Recording Time Remaining & Audio Metering to the BMPC 4K. As CEO Grant Petty said, their goal with the latest slew of the much needed and awaited firmware updates starting from 1.8 and above is to bring the same interface and features set across all cameras in the current line-up, as they gear to release the 4K URSA in all its incarnations.
The reason they broke up the firmware updates into small pieces instead of one large firmware update was so they could make those features available to us quicker. And we very much appreciate that.
The latest Camera Utility 1.9.3 firmware update gives the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera (BMPCC) & the Blackmagic Cinema Camera (BMCC 2.5K) a serious features boost and in particular the cameras get:
- Histogram
- Time Remaining Indicator
- Audio level indicators
Here’s a breakdown of what’s new in Camera Utility 1.9.3:
Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera
- Add Histogram, Time Remaining and Audio Level Indicators – use Up and Down to reveal and hide the meters while Left and Right will adjust the aperture of your active MFT lens.
- Fixed bug where in-camera playback may sometimes drop frames.
Blackmagic Cinema Camera
- Add histogram, time remaining and audio level indicators.
No changes to the Blackmagic URSA, Blackmagic Production Camera 4K, Blackmagic Studio Camera, or the Blackmagic Studio Camera 4K in Camera Utility 1.9.3.
